Navigation Officer Cadet Training Programme
Overview
A Navigation Officer maintains watches on the bridge at sea, and maintenance and cargo operations when in port.
They are responsible for passage planning, the safe navigation of the ship, cargo loading and discharge, ship stability, communications and the maintenance of the hull and deck equipment.
Our Navigation cadet training programme consist of best quality training, to guide you to become a qualified deck officer. Full programme consists of academic and on-board training which divide the programme into several phases.

Intake Limitations
Maximum 24 students per course.
Academic Faculty
Our training will be delivered by properly qualified lecturers and instructors with qualifications as specified in MSN 03/2022 issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping, Merchant Shipping Secretariat, Sri Lanka.
Entry Requirements
- be above 17 years and be less than 22 years
- hold a credit pass in English at GCE O/L Examination (Local / London)
- have 2 passes at GCE A/L examination (Local / London) in Maths stream or Biology stream (including a pass for physics) or Technology stream (including a pass for Science for Technology or Engineering for Technology)

Phase 1 – 07 months at SMTI (Residential)
Phase 2 – 12 months (On the ship training)
