DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB SUMMARY:

To deliver the English language curriculum and extra-curricular support to SMTI cadets and rating trainees in order to strengthen their English language competence and confidence, preparing them to successfully complete their company interviews and operate more professionally at sea in English.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

1. Cadets and rating trainees make appropriate levels of progress towards being more competent and confident in English for the purposes of work, interviews and general communication, as documented in their progress monitoring and assessments.
2. Cadets and rating trainees are more used to and comfortable with conversing with foreign nationals. 
3. Cadets and rating trainees are better able to operate professionally, following instructions, conveying information, raising and responding to questions, providing suggestions and seeking clarification in English as appropriate. 
4. The quality of the English language curriculum is strengthened through the provision of clear feedback on the lessons delivered.

NOTE: The English language teacher plays a multifaceted role in supporting the language improvement and professional development initiatives at SMTI. By engaging with cadets and rating trainees in various activities, providing academic support, ensuring adherence to the institute rules and regulations, and fostering respect for staff, they contribute significantly to the overall educational experience and success of the cadets.
